Entrepreneurship

Small businesses are the backbone of Oregon’s economy in urban, suburban and rural areas.  As a small business owner, I support investing in small business infrastructure, tax cuts and federal incentives to revitalize Main Street U.S.A.s especially after Covid-19.

To rebound from the economic impacts and closures of small business during the pandemic we need to extend PPP loans and no to low interest loans to Oregon small brick-and-mortar businesses.  Rightfully, Oregon’s pandemic mandates were in place much longer than expected and longer than other states.  I think there should be federal programs to reward states who followed CDC and Biden Administration social distancing and masking practices throughout the entire pandemic.  I want to work with the Oregon, Washington and California Congressional delegations to make this happen.

I am a strong supporter of expanding federal programs directed at first-time business owners who are women, indigenous, people of color and other marginalized communities.  The future is what we make it.  Our Main Streets, chambers of commerce and wealth distribution should reflect the diversity of our cities and towns.

Finally, it is time to make on-line giants pay their fair share of federal taxes.  Online retailers like Amazon and eBay, with big-box chains like Wal-Mart and Target have all but killed small business, all the while escaping any federal tax liability.  This is wrong and this dynamic needs to do a 180 degree turn around.

I support the 15% minimum corporate tax rate on billion-dollar profit businesses Senator Warren proposes and taxing the profits of individual billionaires that Senator Wyden and others propose.
