Education and Teachers

A quality, free, public education for all is paramount to a functioning economy and society.  I’m a steadfast advocate for public education and have only attended public schools my entire life.  I believe we need to restore all the Trump-era cuts to the Department of Education and increase funding for programs that work to equalize our public schools between urban, suburban and rural schools.

Schools are only as good as the teachers in them.  I believe the federal government should greater subsidize state and local school districts in order to increase teachers’ salary and benefits packages.  We say we cherish our schools, yet we still don’t invest nearly enough money in them.

I fully support free community college nationwide for two years.  Our community colleges are best equipped to change to the changing community needs and job skills that our new, green economy will require.

I also believe free community college is a great first step in reducing student loan debt.  I attended COCC for my first year of college which greatly reduced my overall loan amount.  If community college were free and for two years, working and middle-class students will have better financial access to not only community college but universities after as well.
