Ensuring Rights of Immigrants
and Asylum Seekers

"I believe the diversity that immigration brings combined with indigenous peoples cultures and values is what make us strong.  Constitutional protections of due process must be applied equally to every single person in the U.S. regardless of immigration status. We need to provide a more timely and just pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are bringing their talent, world knowledge and culture here. Immigrant work is the bedrock of our economy."

We are a country whose population is made up of majority immigrants. I am only a third-generation American from Italian immigrants on my maternal side and Scandinavia on my paternal side. I believe the diversity that immigration brings combined with indigenous peoples cultures and values is what make us strong and now more than ever need to be preserved.

Constitutional protections of due process in our Bill of Rights must be applied equally to every single person in the U.S. regardless of immigration status. We need to provide a more timely and just pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are bringing their talent, world knowledge and culture here. Immigrant work is the bedrock of our economy.

We need to curtail ICE and border policing abuses under the Trump Administration and alter our deportation and due process capabilities at the border, especially for those seeking political asylum from tyranny, violence and economic conditions in their own country.

Violence and substandard working conditions for migrants need to be treated the same as citizens and the federal government needs to do its job and prioritize enforcing migrant protection laws. I too believe that comprehensive Immigration Reform is long overdue and look forward to working with House colleagues and the Biden/Harris Administration to get this done.

I support immediate citizenship for Dreamers (DACA) to individuals who have contributed to our society, our economy, our tax base for 10 years or more and are in good standing without a criminal record.
